Today, marked another huge milestone in my life. I started pre-k! My parents had enrolled me at Merryhill preschool, abt 20mins drive from my place. I get to go to school on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.. and did I hear you ask what about Tuesday and Thursday ? Well, those 2 days are reserved for me to really study study all day long and go for my extra curricular activities (just kidding :))
My parents thought 3 days will be sufficient to ease me to school and going to Merryhill first will hopefully help me adjust better to routine when I go for 5 days school at Granada Islamic School on August 25th. Err why 2 schools within a span of 3mths and why 5 days for Granada ?? My parents seriously don’t think that I’ll get too attached to my friends and teachers at Merryhill and I will have no problem adjusting. Granada is our first choice for school and it’s just a 5mins drive away but they apparently had space issues and long waiting list so we weren’t sure whether I’d get a place there. But a week ago they finally confirmed my place at GIS… yipppeee!! GIS is more academic based and I’ll get to learn my duas so if I missed 2 days of class in a week, I might lose out a lot and poor me will become blur sotong.. boohooo!
Back to my first day at school, we arrived there at 8:30am. After looking at the class list, we started looking for my pre-k teacher, Miss Melissa, but apparently she will be there only at 9am.. duhh. Mamma brought me around the classroom and showed me the restroom, cubbies, where we hang our bags and coats, my table, etc. I keep telling Mamma I know everything already coz I came to the school 2wks ago to visit and sit in a class. On my table, the teachers had put No Meat, Kosher only! .. which equates to vegetarian, right ? They don’t serve kosher food btw.. and Mamma don’t think they’d understand what halal is so I’ll be vegetarian on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays
And I’ve been drilled to say I don’t eat meat .. only vegetarian food for the past few weeks so that I can sound it off to my teachers if they happen to hand me food with meat in it. For my first day Mamma had packed yummy Mac N Cheese for me.
The first activity for the day was playground time and that’s the only time I get to see my friends Shaayla and Katelyn who are in a different class from me. My parents lingered around for awhile till Mamma has spoken to my teacher.. she makes sure Miss Melissa knows who I am. After quick hugs & kisses goodbye, they finally left.
In class, we had circle time and play & play & play some more, my favourite was mr potato head. I had so much fun I totally forgot about my parents.
They came back at 12:30 noon just after I’ve finished my Mac N Cheese and my friends were getting ready to take their afternoon nap. I had told my teacher that I’m not gonna sleep in the class today coz otherwise my mummy is going to miss me. Miss Melissa told Mamma that I behaved well and respond well during circle time. My parents were very proud of me especially when I told them that I went to pee twice on my own. That was the only thing they were worried about actually.. that I might not tell the teacher quick enough that I need to go pee. They really have nothing to worry about.. I’m a big girl now, I can do everything myself and quick to adapt to any new situations.
