I love to read especially before bedtime. Some books I’d read over and over again till I have memorized the story (but not all the text). I love books that rhymes with catchy words and sometimes Mamma will read them to me in a sing song style. That’s what she learn from the Babies Steps Up program we attended some times back.
She also learnt that you need to read with expression, vary your voice and adapt it to the different characters in the books. You can also capture a toddler’s attention if you sing or speak verse.
Mamma also involves me in the story by asking me questions and answering them herself if I don’t answer back. When reading story about The Three Bears, Mamma will ask me questions like “How do you think baby bear felt when he saw his chair was broken?” or “Have you ever seen a bear?”
It is more fun that way although sometimes I really don’t know how to answer her but Mamma often help by providing the answers for me. That is how I learn..

01|Apr|2006 2I do agree with Alya’s mummy when she mentioned that when we read books to our lil tod, try to read it with expression as it definitely catch the attention of our lil tod.
Bravo! We can see our lil Alya read her book with all the expression. JJ BTW, is that the 10 Little Rubber Duck by Eric Carle? If it is, the book is very interesting!!! Since, lil Alya luv books with rhymes and catchy, try Dr Seuss’s book. They got interesting collections for reading.
